Enhancing Copilot Interaction

A key aspect of Suggested Follow Ups was increasing user engagement with Copilot by encouraging more conversation turns. We achieved this by presenting users with relevant follow-up suggestions that naturally extended their current conversation. Our design decisions were guided by four main considerations:

• Length: We kept suggestions concise and actionable, typically 10-12 words, to maintain clarity while encouraging exploration
• Tone of Voice: Suggestions used friendly, conversational language that matched Copilot's personality
• Placement: We positioned follow-up options prominently but non-intrusively, appearing at natural conversation breakpoints
• Visual Design: We used subtle animations and clear visual hierarchy to make suggestions feel organic to the conversation flow

This approach not only increased user interaction with Copilot but also helped users discover new capabilities and maintain context throughout their tasks.
